TiB2/Al-4.5Cu composites were prepared by mixed salt reaction in-situ synthesis process
and friction and wear properties of the composites were investigated.Microstructure of the composites was observed by XRD(X-ray diffraction)and SEM(scanning electron microscope). The results reveal that in-situ TiB2particle with fine grain size in range of 0.1~1.5 μm and average size of 400nm is uniformly distributed along grain boundary
obviously refining the microstructure of the composites.Dry sliding frictional and wear experiment at room temperature shows that wear resistance of the composites is evidently superior to that of matrix alloy.Wear mechanism of matrix alloy is characterized by adhesive wear
and wear mechanism of the composites is characterized by co-action of abrasive wear with slight adhesive wear.
