In order to obtain Al based composites with favorable microstructure and high damping behavior
in-situ TiB2/A356 aluminum matrix composites were fabricated by the mixed salts method. Microstructure and composition of the composites were analyzed by SEM (scanning electron microscope)
OM (optical microscope) and XRD (X-ray diffraction)
and damping behavior was examined. The results show that TiB2 particle with approximately 300 nm in average grain size are uniformly distributed into the matrix
exhibiting apparent refinement for primary grain size
which results in the strength
modulus and damping of the composites superior greatly to those of the matrix alloy.
