Ti-40Al-10Fe(atom percentage)alloy was prepared by vacuum magnetic levitation melting with water-cooling copper crucible under argon atmosphere.Microstructure and properties of the alloy were investigated by SEM(scanning electron microscope)
XRD(X-ray diffraction)
EDS(energy dispersive spectrometer)and micro-hardness tester.The results show that microstructure of the alloy consists of dendrites and a little equiaxed grain
which is composed of γ-TiAl phase and τ2 phase.There exists segregation of Fe and Al in equiaxed grain zone.Castability of Ti-40Al-10Fe is superior to that of Ti-48Al-10Nb alloy
and absence of shrinkage hole can be observed in the Ti-40Al-10Fe alloy
and its micro-hardness reaches 497(Hv)
far away higher than that of Ti-48Al-10Nb alloy(330Hv).Meanwhile
effects of Fe element on the microstructure and properties of the alloy were described.
