In order to refine reinforced-phase in Al-18Si-xFe alloy
a novel method of wavelike sloping plate(WSP)rheocasting process for preparing hypereutectic Al-18Si-xFe alloy was proposed
and microstructure formation mechanism of the alloy during wavelike flow and cooling process was investigated.The results show that morphology of primary Si
Al18Si10Fe5and Al8Si2Fe phase in the Al-18Si and Al-18Si-5Fe alloy can be refined greatly by the WSP rheocasting.With the decrease of pouring temperature and the increase of cooling strength of sloping plate
various phases tend to be refined and spheroidized.Formation of microstructure in the alloy can be attributed to crystal nucleus multiplication brought by crystallization rain
crystal restraining growth under strong cooling of sloping plate and crystal broken-up under flow shearing.
