The varieties and shape of impurities in AZ80 magnesium alloy were investigated by XRD

in order to improve the quality
AZ80 magnesium alloy melt was purified by ultrasonic field.The results show that impurities in AZ80 magnesium alloy consist of mainly MgO which exists mainly in form of particle
block-like and long strip structure.It is also found that acceptable purification effects on AZ80 magnesium alloy with impurities can be obtained by ultrasonic treatment
which is related to ultrasonic power
treatment time and melt temperature.The desirable purification effects of the AZ80 magnesium alloy can be observed with ultrasonic treatment of 80W at 650℃ for 60s.It is deteriorated to purify AZ80 magnesium alloy with excessively high ultrasonic power or time.
