Hydrogen storage alloys La0.83Mg0.1Ni3.25Al0.15Mn0.1 was prepared by induction melting and annealing and by melt spun. Effects of melt spun on the phase structure
microstructure and electrochemical properties of the alloy were investigated by XRD (X-ray diffraction)
EPMA and electrochemical testing. The results reveal that
although effect of cooling rate on phase constituent in the alloy can be neglected
it greatly affected the abundance of different phases. With increasing in cooling rate
abundance of LaNi5 with CaCu5 type structure is increased
while abundance of LaNi3 phase with PuNi3 type structure is decreased. The microstructure of alloy prepared by melt spun is composed of columnar grain structure. In addition
activity of the alloy is almost independent of cooling rate. With increasing in cooling rate
maximum discharge capacity is decreased and cycling stability of the alloy is obviously improved
where S100 reaches 97.03% with cooling rate of 15 m/s.
