Effects of compound modification of MgCO3 and Sr on AM60B and Mg2Si phase in in-situ Mg2Si/AM60B magnesium matrix composites were investigated. The results show that trace Sr addition can greatly improve the morphology of Mg2Si phase
where primary Mg2Si phase is converted from coarse dendrite into polygonal structure
and eutectic Mg2Si phase is transformed from coarse Chinese script into fine rod-like ones or polygonal particle. Meanwhile
MgCO3 can obviously refine the AM60B matrix. Based on the above effects
the mechanical properties of the in-situ Mg2Si/AM60B magnesium matrix composites were significantly improved.
