Effects of Cooling Rate on Microstructure and Electric-ablation Behavior of Cu-30Cr2Nb Alloy
Nb alloy was prepared by rapid solidification in copper mould. The electric-ablation behaviors of the Cu-30 Cr
2
Nb alloy and pure copper was investigated comparatively by discharging in air. The results indicate that cooling rate is the main factor affecting the size and the morphology of Cr
2
Nb phase. With the cooling rate increasing
the average size of Cr
2
Nb particles is decreased and the morphology is transformed from long bars to short rods
then to fine spherical particles. Compared with pure copper
Cu-30 Cr
2
Nb alloy exhibits larger arc spot area
lower current density and smoother arc spot. The higher electric-ablation resistance of Cu-30 Cr
2
Nb alloy is related with the reduced current density and the heat emission of electrons from Cr
2
Nb particles.
