Mechanical Behavior and Energy Absorption of Investment Casting Lattice Al
The effects of structural parameters on the mechanical behavior and energy absorption properties of investment casting lattice Al were investigated. The pyramid-shaped 3 D lattice Al was fabricated through the combination of computer-aided design
sterolithography apparatus and investment casting technology. The quasi-static compression mechanical behavior of the lattice Al were characterized and the mechanical properties of the lattice show obvious dependence on the structural parameters. When the inclination angle is 60°
the relative density
flow stress and energy absorption per unit volume are increased by 21%
142% and 159%
respectively
where the plateau stress is around 15 MPa and the energy absorption per unit volume is 2.7 MJ/m
3
which are increased to around 22 MPa and 10.6 MJ/m
3
with the angle increasing to 65°
respectively. The pyramid-shaped 3 D lattice Al is similar to common porous metals
where compression stress is closely related to the structural parameters of the material and has obvious elastic zone
