An interaction model is proposed for a particle with a solid/liquid interface. When the contact angle between a ceramic particle and solid/liquid interface is less than 90°
the particle will be entrapped by growing solid interface. Otherwise
it is rejected. The necessary condition for making the contact anlge less than 90° is to make the interfacial energy of a particle with a solid smaller than that of the particle with the liquid. The interaction model has been verified using the zone melting UDS method with the AlSi/Al2O3 composites.
