Effects of Rare Earth Additions on the As-Cast Microstructure and the Mechanical Properties of AlZnMgCu Alloy
The effects of Ce and Y additions on the as-cast microstructure and the mechanical properties of AlZnMgCu alloy have been investigated. The results show that the arm space of the as-cast secondary dendrite and the dimension of the maximum eutectic compound are decreased with adding Ce and Y. The additions of Ce and Y may reduce the ageing strength and ageing hardness of AlZnMgCu alloy. But a small amount of Ce and Y can effectively improve the alloy’s impact toughness.
