The Cause for Low Elongation of Ductile Iron Pipein Hot Mold by Centrifugal Casting
Low elongation is a general existing problem in hot mold by centrifugal casting for ductile iron pipe. The change of residnal Mg in molten iron was analyzed based on the feature of centrifugal casting. It is found that this disadvantage is attributed to the superoxidation of iron melt and the loss of Mg due to the centrifugal effect and the comparatively long holding time of the molten iron in the hot mold. One way to increase the elongation is to properly prevent Mg from oxidation
and the other is to shorten the solidification time.
