Microstructures and Ageing Characteristics of Mullite/ZL101 Composite in Squeezing Casting
The microstructures of Mullite/ZL101 composite and its matrix alloy in squeezing casting were observed by optical microscope and TEM. The ageing characteristics of the composite and its matrix alloy were examined by HB and Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC). The results showed that the good Mullite/ZL101 composite can be made in squeezing casting. The Mullite fibre has obviously strengthening(hardening) effect on ZL101 alloy. The aged hardness of the composite is much higher than that of the matrix alloy in the whole isothermal ageing process. The ageing precipitation sequence of the matrix alloy has not been changed and the SSS→GP reaction controlled by vacancy diffusion at low temperature has not been significantly suppressed with the synthesization of short mullite fibre. The peak temperature and activation energy value in β″ precipitation of the composite are lower than those of the matrix alloy. The ageing hardening course of Mullite/ZL101 composite is accelerated obviously to some extent.
