Compression Deformation Behavior of Semi-solid Al-Si Alloy Prepared by Crystallization-controlling
homogenously distributed non dendrite primary α phase suitable for semi solid process was fabricated by crystallization controlling method. Average equivalent diameters of primary α phase is 90 μm and average shape coefficient is 0.75. We have developed a experimental compression equipment to conduct semi solid direct compression deformation for both conventional dendrite structure and non dendrite grain structure slurry at different deformation temperatures(constant deformation rate 0.01 s -1 ). The deformation behavior of the slurry was evaluated from the aspects of surface quality
limited plasticity and deformation degree. The limited plasticity of semi solid grain structure slurry can be achieved up to 33.10% at 585℃ and up to 22.36% at 565 ℃ while that of conventional dendrite structure slurry can be only achieved up to 27.44% at 585 ℃ and up to 21.36% at 565 ℃. The liquid flow dominated over compression deformation of semi solid grain structure.
