Abstract

Various factors related to the viscosity of silica sol

including SiO 2 content

temperature

pH value and shape

size and compactness of colloid

thickness of hydrated layer

electric charge electrolyte as well as polymetre etc.

were analyzed. Viscosity related to microstructure of silica sol is a key index for silica sol quality. Sufficient attention should be paid to the viscosity index in production and usage of silica sol.
