shrinkage hole/porosity of a steel casting in investment casting was predicted by a developed solidification simulation software based on FT-STAR. The simulated results were well in agreement with the results of practical castings in ultrasonic detection. Meanwhile
the gating system of the casting was optimized to provide a reference for improving the technology by applying the software.
