Influence of Processing Parameters on Microstructures and Properties of the Semi-solid Al-4Cu-Mg Alloy
The microstructures and mechanical properties of the semi-solid Al-4Cu-Mg alloy prepared by SIMA were investigated. Results showed that the fine and near-spheroidal microstructures can be obtained by properly choosing the SIMA processing parameters. Grain size decreased with increasing the reduction
decreasing the isothermal temeprature and the holding time. The spheroidization of grain is promoted with the increase in reduction
isothermal temperature and the holding time as well as the decrease in fractual dimension. The semi-sold materials with 358~387 MPa of compression ultimate strength and 246~265 MPa of yield strength at room temperature can be prepared by the SIMA with 20%~25% reduction at 580~600 ℃ and holding time for 2~6 min.
