The SiC nanoparticles reinforced AM60 magnesium alloys were fabricated by semisolid process.The effects of SiC nanoparticles on microstructure and mechanical properties of AM60 have been investigated by optical microscope
Brinell hardness tester and MTS material testing machine etc.The results show that the microstructure and mechanical properties of magnesium alloys can be improved withthe addition of SiC nanoparticles.In terms of mechanical properties
the optimal addition of SiC nanoparticles is 0.1%.Under this condition
theincrease extent of yield strength
tensile strength
elongation
hardness and impact energyof AM60 magnesium alloys are 56.9%
19.2%
69.3%
16.4% and 18.8% of those of original alloys
respectively.The mechanisms of strengthening and toughening of magnesium alloys with SiC nanoparticles are also discussed.
