    Abstract

    Solidification microstructure of Al2O3·SiO2/Zn-RE composites and its interface were observed by SEM.The results showed that there exists a compact interface between Al2O3·SiO2 fibre and matrix and that the proper chemical reaction can be helpful to improve the bonding of the fibre and matrix.Al2O3·SiO2 fibre can be taken as a substrate of heterogeneous eutectic nucleation of the zinc alloy,and the silic phase in fibre/matrix interface is prior to growing in couple growth during solidification,which realizes the Al-Si eutectic transformation and Zn-Al eutectic transformation in the composites.
