    Abstract

    Reheating state and thixotropic behavior of semisolid hypoeutectic Al-Si alloy were investigated by the penetration method.Softness formula S*=KD/T was employed to describe the reheating state of the semisolid Al-Si alloy using some parameters,including the penetrated depth,penetrated time and load acting on the probe.The softness ranging from 183 to 500 was proper for the thixoforming behavior of the alloy.The change of penetrated depth of the probe was approached by analysis of experimental results.
