The microstructure and mechanical properties of the Al-10Mn
Al-15Mn and Al-20Mn alloys prepared by solid-liquid casting were researched.It is revealed that the microstructure of the Al-Mn alloy can be obviously refined by liquid-solid casting
in which the size of the primary phase with spheroidal or equiaxed shape is lower than 10 μm.Compared with that in conventional casting methods
the tensile strength of the Al-Mn alloy in solid-liquid casting is increased by 110~160 MPa from 40~60 MPa and elongation is increased by 1% from zero.The microstructure of the Al-Mn alloy in both conventional casting and solid-liquid casting become coarser with the increase of the Mn contents so the tensile strength was decreased and hardness is slightly increased.The solid-liquid casting can extend the composition scope of the Al-Mn alloy for research and application.
