Peritectic Solidification of Zn-Ni Alloy with Different Cooling Rates
The effects of different cooling rates on the peritectic solidification of Zn-2Ni alloy at 750 ℃ were investigated by SEM and EDS
XRD. The results reveal that the peritectic δ phase can only be partially grown on primary γ phase in solidification structure of the Zn-2Ni alloy at the cooling rate of 0.04 ℃/s while be hardly observed at the cooling rates of 1℃/s and 36℃/s. It is concluded that the peritectic solidification characteristics of Zn-2Ni alloy is different from the typical peritectic solidification ones. The peritectic δ phase is difficult to nucleate on the primary γ phase and very slow in growth rate.
