Coupled Numerical Simulation of Solidification and Solute Transfer in Thin Slab in Continuous Casting
a 3-D coupled model has been developed for binary iron-carbon alloy to describe the turbulent fluid flow
heat transfer
solidification
and solute redistribution in the thin slab in continuous casting. Calculated results show that the turbulent fluid flow intensively alters the shapes of temperature field and the solute distribution in thin slab. The impact of flow jet from immersed nozzle on broad face of the thin slab is responsible for un-even distribution of solidified shell thickness along broad face. The formation mechanism and potential position of macro-segregation are analyzed.
