Analysis of Skin Microstructure Formation on a Die Casting
Based on analysis of the skin microstructure of obtained samples from a plate die casting
three characteristics of skin microstructure including thick and fine grained chilling microstructure
a small number of chilling microstructure and no chilling microstructure totally
were observed. With the numerical simulation of filling and solidification process for the plate die casting
the formation of different characteristics was discussed. The research indicated that the mode of collision between filling liquid and die surface as well as the solidification order had important effect on the skin microstructure formation.
