Semi-solid slurry of A356 alloy was prepared by a self-developed cooling slope method. The key processing parameters on the formation and evolution of non-dendritic microstructure in the semi-solid slurry were analyzed through observing the structure in the ingot prepared by the method. in the condition of water cooling
the desirable microstructure can be created in the slurry with applying different slope lengths at varied pouring temperatures. A given pouring length is beneficial to forming near spheroidal structure with pouring at low temperature. Meanwhile
the microstructure of the ingot can be evolved from dendrites into fine spheroid grain during cooling slope.
