    Abstract

    The effects of different pulsed electric current peak values on solidification structure and mechanical properties of AZ91magnesium alloy have been investigated, which was compared with that of the alloy treated by MgCO3. The results show that with increasing the peak voltage of pulsed current, the solidification structure of the magnesium alloy can be greatly refined and the mechanical properties can be improved. With the peak voltage of 2000V, compared with the un-treated sample and with modified samples, the pulsed current treated samples can be increased by 25% and by 4% in tensile strength, and by 128% and by 14% in elongation, respectively.
