Effects of Specimen Size on Microstructure of Cast γ-TiAl Alloy
The effects of specimen size on cast γ-TiAl alloy have been observed. The results indicate that the average columnar crystal size is 320
436
543 μm with γ-TiAl alloy plate of 3
4
5 mm in thickness
respectively
showing a linear functional relationship. The average lamellar spacing is 1 353
1 494
1 540 nm
respectively
increasing with the increase of the thickness of the plate. In addition
the micro-hardness of the alloy is decreased with the increase of thickness of the alloy specimen. The variation of thickness of specimen changing the temperature gradient during solidification process is responsible for the change of microstructure and micro-hardness of the γ-TiAl alloy.
