Research on Abrasive Wear Performance of in-situ TiC Particle Reinforced Ferrous Matrix Composites
In-situ TiC particle reinforced ferrous matrix composites with different Ti contents were fabricated by added Ti metal during melting process of plain carbon steels. Characteristics of abrasive wear were studied on the basis of analysis of microstructure and performance measurements. The result showed that different volume fraction of TiC particle reinforced ferrous matrix composites can be fabricated by using simple melting casting method and the shape of the TiC in the composites shows fine
regular and multilateral. Characteristics of abrasive wear resistance of composites was enhanced by the formation of TiC with high hardness. The performance of abrasive wear resistance of composites was enhanced with the increase of TiC volume fraction. The heavier the load and the more TiC contents
the more excellent wear resistance performance shows in the load from 5 N to 35 N. When adding excessive Ti led to Fe3C disappearing in matrix during the fabrication
the macro hardness of materials was decreased and the wear resistance of composites had been increased. The wear mechanism of composite was mainly to form plough and ditch and form initial grinding chips.
