    Abstract

    Taking Mo and Si as a reaction system, a dense MoSi2 was directly prepared. The effect of sintering temperature on microstructures and relative density of MoSi2 were investigated. The microstructure of the product shows that Mo5Si3 distributes at grain boundaries on matrix of MoSi2, with production of small amount of SiO2. With an increase of the sintering temperature, the relative density of the products was improved which may be explained with the effect of the higher degree of liquid phase sintering, while the content of Mo5Si3 increased. A slight excess of Si and control of temperature can help to eliminate the second phase (Mo5Si3).
