The physical simulation of melt flow of continuous casting aluminum alloy slab with 1 650 mm in length and 220 mm in width in mould was conducted by PIV(particle image velocity)
and the melt characteristics in the mould was described.Five different floating distributors were made with PVC plates whose density is less than that of water to simulate the floating state as practical production.The results show that with the increase of casting speed
free surface tends towards more unstable.Appropriate increase of port angle of floating distributor can increase the stability of free surface.Ports at the bottom can effectively increase the stability of free surface as a result of weakening fluctuation of flow field
