Effects of Extruding Casting on SiCp Reinforced 7090 Aluminum Matrix Composites
The densification of multi-layer co-deposited large dimensional 7090/SiC
p
composites was performed by extruding casting. The effects of extruding process on the microstructure and properties of the composites and on the densities of as-deposited and as-extruded composites were described. The results reveal that pores in the composites are elongated to gradually close as a result of co-action of heavy hydrostatic pressure and shearing stress during extruding process
taking a positive densification effect. The distribution of SiC particles in the extruded composites was obviously improved due to its broken during extruding process. And the tensile strength of as-extruded composites is 540 MPa in transverse direction and is 325 MPa in longitude direction after heat treatment.
