Effects of Ce on the Divorced Eutectic β Phase in the AZ31 Magnesium Alloy
The effects of cooling rate and Ce addition on the growth behavior
appearance
characteristics and numbers of the divorced eutectic β phase in microstructure of the AZ31 magnesium alloy have been analyzed.The results reveal that Ce addition can greatly influence the microstructure of the alloy.The divorced eutectic β phase in the AZ31 magnesium alloy is converted from continuous net-like structure into discontinuous short rod or particle with the Ce addition increasing to 0.6%
and its amounts are decreased with the declination of cooling rate.In addition
Mg-Al-Zn-Ce compound can be observed in the alloy.
