Effects of low frequency electromagnetic field on ingot surface
as-cast microstructure and alloying element distribution in horizontal continuous casting aluminum alloy slab were investigated
which was compared with that of conventional horizontal continuous casting aluminum alloy slab. The results reveal that low frequency electromagnetic field can greatly improve the as-cast microstructure of horizontal continuous aluminum alloy slab. The uniformly distributed fine as-cast microstructure in the cross section of the whole ingot can be observed as a result of refining grain size and weakening the effects of gravity on solidification process of ingot by low frequency electromagnetic field. In addition
the solute element is more homogeneously distributed in the cross section of the slab
which is resulted from reducing negative segregation and gravity segregation by low frequency electromagnetic field.
