Hard spots in die casting ZL111 aluminum alloy crankcase were observed by OM (optical microscope)
electronic prober and micro-hardness tester
and so on. The results reveal that serious segregation and exceeding-standard of chemical composition in the crankcase can be examined. There exists heterogeneous distribution of white block and gray inclusion as well as low-gray compound hard spots in the microstructure
which coresponding to quenching low hardness spots entrapped by turbulent flow injection
unsmelted Si phase and spinel
MgAl2O4
AlSiMnFe phase as well as compound hard spot of intermetallic compound
