As-cast Microstructure and Properties of 7005 Aluminum Alloy Produced by Electrolytic Liquid-Al
Al2O3 inclusion in electrolyte liquid aluminum on as-cast microstructure and properties of 7005 aluminum alloy were investigated by means of optical microscope(OM)
scanning electron microscope(SEM)
energy spectrum analysis and ambient tensile testing. The results indicate that impurity elements Fe and Si can react with Mg and Mn in electrolyte liquid aluminum to form the second phase
such as AlFeMnSi and Mg2Si
which is distributed along the grain boundary or in the grain. The metallurgical quality of liquid aluminum in short-flow process is basically controlled by hydrogen and Al2O3 inclusion generated in the course of Al electrolysis.Existence of gas porosity formed during casting is responsible for fracture of the as-cast 7005 aluminum alloy.
