Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Mg-Gd-Ag-Zr Alloys
Microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-18.6Gd-1.9Ag-0.24Zr alloy in as-cast
T4 and T6 conditions were investigated by OM(optical microscope)and SEM(scanning electron microscope). The results indicate that microstructure of the as-cast alloy consists of approximately α-Mg equiaxed dendrite and Mg5Gd phase distributed along grain boundary
and it is composed of supersaturated α-Mg phase and H2Gd phase in T4 solution treatment condition
and precipitated β’ phase in peak-aged alloy can be observed.Effects of different aged temperatures
such as 200
225
250 ℃
on hardness of the alloy were investigated. The results show that with increasing in aging temperature
peak-aged hardness of the alloy is decreased
and peak-aged time is shortened greatly
exhibiting distinctly aging strengthening effects
in which maximum peak-aged hardness of HV134 can be obtained at 200 ℃.The yield strength
tensile strength and elongation of the peak-aged treated alloy at 200 ℃ reach 291.0 MPa
