Abstract

The phase constituent,morphology,hardness,corrosion resistance,thermal-shock resistance and thermal stability of the ceramic coatings produced by micro-arc oxidation on a cast hypereutectic Al-14Si-5Cu-3Ni-1Mg alloy were analyzed by micro-hardness testing,XRD(X-ray diffraction),SEM(scanning electron microscope),the Tafel curves,DSC(differential scanning calorimetry)and TG(thermal-gravity).It is found that the ceramic coating consists of a compact layer composed of α-Al2O3 phase and a loose layer composed of γ-Al2O3 phase and amorphous phase,which is responsible for the improvement of the corrosion resistance.Meanwhile,the hardness of the ceramic coating reaches HV 2400 with desirable thermal-shock resistance and thermal stability.
