Effects of Mixed Addition of Alkaline Earth Element on Microstructure and Properties of AZ91D Magnesium Alloy
The as-cast magnesium alloy was prepared with alkaline earth element
such as Ca
Ba and Sr
by melting-casting.Microstructure
phase constituent and mechanical properties of the alloy were investigated by OM(optical microscope)
SEM(scanning electron microscope)
EDS(energy dispersive spectrometer)and XRD(X-ray diffraction)as well as tensile testing.The results show that the as-cast microstructure of the alloy can be significantly refined as a result of comprehensive effects of Ca
Ba and Sr element
in which net-like β-Mg17Al12 phase is converted into globular structure with dispersive distribution.In addition
the ambient tensile strength is increased form 156.3MPa of AZ91D alloy to 184.6MPa of AZ91D-0.5Ca-0.2Ba-0.1Sr alloy.
