Fabrication of Porous Reticulated TiAl Intermetallics and Its Reinforcement Properties
A porous reticulated TiAl intermetallics framework with excellent properties was prepared by sintering at low temperature and then high temperature
in which porous TiAl billet with high interconnected pore rate was formed by infiltrating a reticulated polymeric sponge with interconnected pores being used as primal framework into proportioned TiAl slurry.The reticulated TiAl intermetallics framework with desirable high interconnected pore rate and high compressive strength can be prepared by sintering at 1380℃.Compressibility and wear-friction behavior of porous reticulated TiAl intermetallics reinforced Al matrix composites were investigated.The results reveal that wear resistance and compressibility of the composites are obviously superior to those of Al matrix due to reinforcing effects of porous reticulated TiAl intermetallics.The wear mechanism of the composites is characterized by adhesive wear.
