Effects of B, Ti, Zr composite modification and melt holding time on as-cast microstructure and mechanical properties of permanent mold casting lead brass ZCuZn40Pb2 were investigated by OM (optical microscope) and SEM (scanning electron microscope) and tensile testing. The results reveal that B, Ti, Zr composite modification can refine as-cast microstructure and improve mechanical properties of the lead brass by improving the distribution of α phase and β phase in the as-cast structure. The desirable refining effects can be observed with 0.001% B, 0.02%Ti and 0.01%Zr composite addition. With increasing in holding time, structure becomes coarse in the composite modified lead brass, exhibiting modification fading, however, acceptable refining effects and mechanical properties can be obtained with holding less than 90 min.
