Formation Mechanism of Twins in AZ61 Magnesium Alloy during Aging
Formation mechanism of wedge twins in AZ61 magnesium alloy during aging was investigated by OM (optical microscope)
TEM (transmission electron microscope) and EDS (energy dispersive spectrometer)
and effects of aging treatment on mechanical properties of the alloy were described. It is found that formation of wedge twins is attributed to the existence of large amounts of plate-like substructure in the alloy and proper Al atom concentration gradient in the grain. The yield strength
tensile strength and elongation of the alloy are increased from 88.79 MPa
