Effects of Minor Sc Addition on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Mg-7Gd-3Y Alloys
Effects of minor Sc addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of the as-cast Mg-7Gd-3Y alloys at room temperature and at 200℃ were investigated by optical microscope (OM)
scanning electron microscope and XRD. The results show that with 0.5%Sc addition
the alloy at room temperature and at 200℃ is increased by 25MPa and 18MPa in tensile strength and by 28 MPa and 22MPa in yield strength as well as by 18.3% and 30.2% in elongation
respectively
as a result of promoting the precipitation of Mg24(Y
Gd)5 and Mg5(Gd
Y) phase and decreasing the relative content of Gd in Mg24(Y
