Heat Treatment Behavior of In-situ TiB2/Al-4.5Cu Composites
TiB2/Al-4.5Cu composites were fabricated by KBF4/K2TiF6 mixed salts reaction in Al-4.5Cu molten metal. Solidification structure and solid solution-ageing properties of the prepared composites were investigated by XRD (X-ray diffraction)
optical microscope (OM)
elemental analyzer and Vikers hardness tester. The results show that the solidification structure of the composites is refined apparently
and the hardness is obviously increased with TiB2 particles addition. The hardness of TiB2/Al-4.5Cu composites with 6.9% TiB2 in volumetric fraction which is treated by T6 is improved by 100% compared with that of Al-4.5Cu matrix alloy. The solid solution process of the composites is restrained
while the ageing process is accelerated by TiB2 particles.
