Abstract
The effects of Ce content on microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-16Li-5Al alloy were investigated by OM
SEM and testing. The results show that the Ce addition results in the refinement of grain size in the alloy and the decrease of Mg12Al17 and AlLi phase due to the increase of RE compound Al2Ce. Meanwhile
its addition can improve the strength and high temperature properties
however
the amounts of Al2Ce exists in and around the grain boundary can lead to the fracture of matrix in the process of tensile
which is responsible for the deterioration of strength. The fracture characteristics of the alloy is controlled by the RE compound Al2Ce generated around the grain boundary.
