The effects of minor Zr and Mn in aluminum alloy on grain refinement of pure aluminum with Al-Ti-B master alloy have been validated. The results reveal that Mn can not affect the refining efficiency
however
the Zr can result in seriously poisoning the Al-Ti-B master alloy. Furthermore
the poisoning effects of Zr become more serious with increasing the molten temperature. In addition
minor Al-Ti-B and Al-Ti master alloy can affect the refinement efficiency of Zr on the pure aluminum. The poisoning mechanism of Zr element has been approached also.
