Effects of ignition mode on microstructure of Al-Ti-C master alloy prepared by SHS with Al
Ti
C powder have been observed by XRD(X-ray diffraction)
SEM(scanning electron microscope). The results indicate that the SHS synthesized master alloy consist of Al
Al3Ti and TiC phase. The fine second phase particle is dispersively distributed into the master alloy due to the low combustion synthesized temperature in self-propagating mode while Al3Ti
TiC particle can be grown to aggregate in the master alloy due to high combustion synthesized temperature in thermal explosion mode
which can affect the grain refining performance to some extent.
